We are just a skip and a hop from Schuyler, Ne. Just 1 mile east of the hwy 15 overpass on the new expressway and turn north on Road 12, we are just 1/4 mile up the road, house is on the east side of the road. You are welcome to come out, and see how we grow your tasty veggies.
Theilen Produce Gardens is a family farm. In fact, the farm has been in the family for over a hundred years. It has constantly evolved throughout that time, Kristy's great-grandfather John built the house in 1910, farming the land and raising his 11 children with the help of his 3 oldest daughters. His son Tom took on the farm next raising rhode island red laying hens, selling the eggs and growing corn and alfalfa, his daughter Linda and her husband Eldon have been farming this same land for the last 33 years, raising hogs and now mostly growing corn and soybeans along with their son Jeremy. Their daughter Kristy came back to the farm only a few years ago to start yet a new direction growing fresh produce.
Theilen Produce Gardens attends about 2-3 markets a week in the Lincoln, Omaha and Schuyler areas. We also do our own CSA which is expanding this year to include even more share options! We are member of hip-camp and this will be our third year as a WWOOF host and we are excited to host some more visitors! We are opening up many more volunteer opportunities and community events and hope to be seeing a lot more faces on the farm this year!

*Why are eggs so good for you?
Eggs are nutrient-dense- meaning there's a lot loaded in that small package, says Sharon Ricter, R.D. One large egg has 13 essential vitamins and minerals, including iron and calcium, 6 g protein, antioxidants lutein and choline, and just 80 calories.
*What about cholesterol? Eggs do have a lot, but saturated and transfats are much worse for your heart and cholesteral levels than the cholesterol in food. Free-Range chickens have less cholesteral in their eggs.
*Yolk or White? The yolk has about half the protein and a good portion of the vitamins and healthy fats-don't skip it.

It's a scientifically-proven fact that the darker the food, the higher the antioxidant level. Antioxidants are to the body, the way rust-proof works on a car - they have the ability to mop up free radicals and keep you looking younger, longer.
Purple foods are colored by a pigment called anthocyanin, a strong and protective antioxidant which can help reduce the risk of cancer, and help improve memory and assist with healthy aging.
Purple foods are also ulcer-fighters, and good for your liver.
Purple vegetables are also packed with flavonoids - known to be one of the most powerful phytochemicals. Flavonoids are heart healthy, beneficial to the cardiovascular system and can lower your risk of heart disease.
Purple basil, which has high doses of vitamin A, C, and calcium. Purple basil is beneficial for the hair, skin and eyes.
Purple flowers will also be planted for your CSA bags. :-)
